Damping of Dry Sand in Resonant Column-Torsional Simple Shear Device

The damping ratio values of three different Danube sands were measured in the Resonant Column-Torsional Simple Shear device (RC-TOSS). distinctive configuration RC-TOSS employed this investigation enabled performance both tests using a single sample. This research estimates and compares with distinct methods (two which are RC test): Free Vibration Decay (FVD), Steady-State (SSV) methods, method calculating from hysteretic loops generated TOSS test. Both dense loose samples tested up to peak-to-peak amplitude shear strain 1%. provides measurements over wide range amplitudes. results support employment SSV at low strains (below 0.005%), while FVD gives better estimate higher (above 0.03%). two agreement each other between 0.005% 0.03%. effect number cycles on was investigated where significant decrease observed an increasing cycles. A parameter is introduced describe rate decrease, should be considered during structural design reduce maintenance life-cycle costs enhance sustainability.
